Tolerances in plastic parts of injection molding

Tolerances in parts of plastic injection molding

It is very important to have a correct tolerances in parts of plastic injection. Sometimes, demanding degrees of tolerances are applied without bearing in mind the particular properties of each thermoplastic, like flame retardant or hydrolysis resistant, for example, and according to shrinkage (it is not the same a polyamide  with glass fiber or POM than polypropylene). In fact, the requirements of precision are less demanding than metals, to name a typical example. These tolerances cannot be applied to plastic parts.

Tolerances in plastic injection molding parts.

the tolerances must be applied bearing in mind the process, of injection molding, adequate injection machine, raw material, tooling from moldmaker and required functionality of each piece in the final assembly, avoiding if it is possible the “fear tolerance” with elevated security coefficients. Therefore this situation generates extra costs and problems in the process due to more scrap based on non center process (gauss bell), despite of the plastic part could be adequate and functional. Ever is cheaper to solve deviation in the design phase than in production phase through process. A good combination of good design and optimum process during the adjustment phase to meet tolerances, is usually a synonym of successful project.

As we have talekd in other post about “considerations of design in plastic injection” there are several issues that it is necessary to know, like warpage, accumulation of mass, complex geometries due to possible movements in tooling, anysotropic properties, mainly in materials with glass fiber.

Standard DIN16742

The standard DIN 16742 is very common in this business with several tables about the information based on different tolerances group (TG1, TG2…), types of production and materials classified according to shrinkages ( <0,5%, entre 0,5 y 1%, 1-2%, y por encima del 2%) to obtain the recomendations about nominal tolerances in different measures to analyze the feasibility.

This norm has 4 levels of different productions:

  • Normal production , production realised with general tolerances. Dimensional stability requirements that do not form any special quality focus.
  • Accurate production, production and quality assurance are oriented to higher dimensional stability requirements.
  • Precision production, full alignment of production and quality assurance to the very high dimensional stability requirements.
  • Precision special production, as precision production, but with more intensive process monitoring.

If you have some project where is required a technical part in injection molding to collaborate together from our company located in Muel, Zaragoza (region of Aragon in Spain), we will be pleased to help you. Do not doubt to contact us.

Why do we have installed solar panels in Zatec?

Everybody knows in Spain(and Europe, too) what is the situation of electricity tariff. due to the high costs of Mwhour, where each day there is a new historic record in Spain. In ZATEC technical plastic injection ,we are committed to responsible production and consumption with affordable and clean energy, in line with the sustainable development goals (SDG12 y SDG7).We have completed the installation of solar panels to generate an important percentage of self-consumption, seizing the central hours in the day, mainly.  With the mentioned situation of electricity tarrif the costs are each day more elevated and these numbers substract directly to annual results of company, affecting to internal costs and therefore the competitiveness. If we add the current situation of raw materials with continuous growh of prices and delivery time, we have a complex global scenario.

As you can see as follows, the graphics show the evolution of spanish electrical market, with minimum, maximum and average price of MWhour (2020 vs 2021),the source of information is

In these graphs you can see well like the costs Euro /Mwh have grown

from 41,97 of average in 2020 to 156,14 in this past month of Septmeber 2021. A big difference!

Nevertheless, when we take this decision the situation are not the current, then these data reaffirms us that we made the right choice

This chosen is the result of an exhaustiv study market based on powerfull installed of 237,60 Kw-pico, producing during the first year 1.301,20 Kwh per each Kw-pico. For this, the orography of the land and the shadows that it may have have been studied to install panels on the most appropriate slope of the roof of the warehouse in order to obtain the optimal solar radiation. With an easy monitoring of live data, through a mobile application so that interesting information can be extracted to cross with other manufacturing data.

Why do we have installed solar panels in Zatec?

ODS7-Zatec, empresa de inyección de plásticos técnicos

Initial investment pays for itself thanks to generate savings in the electricity tariff, minimizing the big energetic dependence that we have, as we have commented some lines above, there is not a small problem. By this way we can invest these savings in other themes. Besides is modular, depending on chosen size that every company requires.

We reduce the CO2 emissions, with an installation of self-consumption of 237,69 Kw-pico, assuring 309.165 Kwhour/year. By this way, with this annual production, per each Kwh that is produced, 200 gr de CO2 are not emitted, based on data of CNMC(National commission of markets and competence, in english). Therefore, if we consider the guarantee peiord of lineal powerfull of solar panles installed, we can estimate the CO2 emissions that will be not emitted to atmospheare: 309.165 Kwhour/year x 30 years x 200 gr CO2/Kwh, a total of 1.854,99 Tons of CO2 prevented.

Solar energy non pollution and clean, that we transform in electrical energy, contributing with goals of 2030 agenda of sustainable development. SDG7 – Affordable and non pollution energy. Encouraging a circular economy.

Besides of numbers and numbers, we are conscious with this type of technology and we expect to show more investment in this same line. LLike injection moulding company, if there is some point where we can collaborate, we are at your disposal.

ZATEC wishes you Merry Christmas

ZATEC wishes to all peopele who is in contact us, directly or indirectly, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Yeear .

This 2020 has been a complicated year, but we should look ahead, improving each day and adapting  to this new scenario with Covid-19.

We would like to thank the effort of our workers, the support from all suppliers and specially to customers that continue trusting in Zatec despite of Covid situation.

We know the essential is invisible to our eyes, by this reason we want to wish you a Merry Christmas and mainly a good health in this new year 2021.

Situation in Zatec about COVID-19

Today is the star theme in the Tv news with current alarm state communicated by the Spanish Government.

Several weeks ago, we saw this situation far away in China and his quick spread have been the same in Spain or even further. In Zatec we read each day bad news due to temporal closure of companies, mainly in automotive market due to mentioned COVID-19.

Internally in ZATEC, we have taken several safety measures and continue analyzing future proposals from workers to avoid, if it is possible, the quick spread, keeping the security in our facility:

  • Maximum 3 workers in each costume (male and female), to respect the minimum distance between workers of aboout 1 meter in the change of shift.
  • Maximum 1 worker in the break cofee area.
  • Of course,  clean the hand with soap more times than usual. Mainly after/before clocking in.
  • More cleanliness in switches, handles, knobs….
  • To use glovees according to each workstation.
  • Flexibility in the shifts, prioritizing the workers with sons and dependent family members.
  • There will be not visits,  from Zatec to Customers/suppliers and from out to Zatec. Except to in execptional cases like repairs with the adequate safety measures.
  • The last point is very important to transporters. The drivers must not enter to warehouse.
  • Bear in mind the possibility to work from house with portable PC in depending on some cases like office.

Anyway, besides of sanitary point of view, that obviously this is the most important, this situation COVID-19 is producing an elevated economical impact in the industry. In fact, there iare some examples in automotive like Seat, VW, Nissan, PSA, Ford, Mercedes… and therefore several companies like Tier-1 1, similar than a house of cards  which is collapsing. Everything is connected.   This is a chain.  Nevertheless in Zatec we continue working 24 hours/ 5 days per week due to we have not positive cases of Covid-19 and we hace still customers working despite of this complicated situation. They need our plastic components of injection molding but we understand this situation could be different tomorrow, waiting the next news about this pandemic.

By this reason we are evaluating our situation in each moment to analyze the best option for our customers and workers day to day.

There are a lot of type of customers, and the critical point at this moment is the direct communicationin both directions to help us like “partners” and not only like acomercial relationship.  Sometimes, there are plastic parts in the transport without posibility to download in the destination due to temporal closure of some companies and this is other unnecesary extra problem. We expect this situation finished as soon as possible but we understand there is a long way to walk, yet. Then, we will adapt at this new moment, and we will continue working to improve and supplying plastic parts of injection molding for different markets like Automotive, being more flexibles in our production based on our know how.

We wish you good healthy to enjoy of working again, with at least relative normality.

Corporate Social Responsability in Zatec

Beyond of certificated and applied standards of our sector or sectors that we are working, for example the IATF-16949 of Automotive market, in Zatec like an injection molding company of technical parts in enginerring plastics, we have a target to develop year on year the Corporate Social Responsability Area grouping all good practices that we are doing or we will do based on sustainable development objectives. By this way, we will contribute with our effort about it.

RSC-Quiero trabajar ahí

Therefore, our interest groups are customers, supplier, social enviroment, enviromental and of course, the workers. In this context Zatec is implementing an ambitious plan of good practices integrated in our everyday and strategy. Considering the satisfaction of our customers like target, supplying plastic parts of high added value according to customer’s requirements, as priority.

Bearing in mind the last paragraph, this year Zatec has made important steps in humans resources to improve the satisfaction of our employees. For example, the birthday present, labor and family conciliation if it is possible, checking their happiness in the job and hearing a proposals to continue improving. Zatec has collaborated with Serlog, an specialized company of  Human Resources like  guide improving the work atmosphere.

Other example that is a source of pride is the Campaign of Pencils and Smiles, collaborating with Automotive Cluster of Aragon, where we are partners, and donating academic materials for children in emergency situation.

In short, it does not mean a simple whitewash, it means to improve our productivity, motivate and retaining talent, giving an important added value to our workers. In fact, this year we have achieved the stamp of Social Responsability in Aragon-RSA(our region in Spain). We expect this year will be only the beginning.

Piezas de Poliamida – ©property of Zatec S.A.
